Welcome!

My name is Jessica Drinks, and I am starting my 11th year of teaching! I am a proud graduate of VT (Go Hokies!) and have my bachelor's degree in psychology and my master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I love to spend time with my family. I have four children, one of which is a KGMS student so I understand the demands of coordinating six different classes and six different teachers with all the extracurricular activities and sports that dominate evenings and weekends!  Along with the chaos of teaching middle school and chauffeuring four children around King George, I also have a chocolate puppy, Willow.

I have been the King George County coordinator for VDP (Virginia Demonstration Project) robotics for over seven years and enjoy bringing such a wonderful hands-on learning experience to every 7th grader. I teach two science classes each year: Integrated Science Class and Life Science 7.

A little about me.....I LOVE to read, crochet, travel, watch my favorite shows "The Big Bang Theory" and "Sleepy Hallow", eat at Fire House subs,  watch RG III do his thing with the Redskins, and be anywhere near the water.

Integrated Science Class is an advanced science class that prepares students to take Biology as an 8th grader. The class combines a year of life science with a year of physical science so that the student is able to take a high school credit class (Biology) while still in middle school. In order to be placed in the INT class, the 7th grade student must be taking Algebra as a 7th grader AND have scored a minimum of 500 of his/her Science SOL test in 5th grade. This class is very fast paced, with many new concepts and ideas that must be learned quickly! These students will be taking the Science 8 SOL at the end of the school year.

Life Science 7 Class is the standard science class that seventh graders take at KGMS. It covers 14 Standards of Learning that will be tested in the students' eighth grade year (the SOL test at the end of 8th grade is a culumative test that combines 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science). We cover many interesting topics, such as plants, animals, ecosystems, pollution, and biomes.

I am looking forward to meeting my new students and their parents!

Thanks,

Mrs. Drinks (jdrinks@kgcs.k12.va.us)
