Class Procedures
At KGMS, we are more than a family, we are a TEAM! We want to encourage students to contribute positively to the school, work productively, and achieve!

T: Teamwork (Cooperate with everyone)
E: Expectations (Know and follow the Code of Conduct & class rules)
A: Attitude (Be positive and give your best effort)
M: Manners (Recognize and respect the rights of others)

Student Notebook
Each student is expected to have a notebook (2 inch binder works great) with 3 dividers to be graded at the end of every nine weeks (once per grading period). This notebook should be used to hold all classwork, homework, tests/quizzes, lab write ups, and lecture notes. Each page of the notebook is numbered by the teacher, and each student will maintain a "Table of Contents" in the front of the notebook that lists each page by title and page number, including date assigned.

Grading Policy and Homework Policy
A student's grade is made up of many assignments each grading period. Homework is a very important part of practicing skills at home and is given on a regular basis of two-three times per week. Homework is always due on the date assigned (at the beginning of class), which is listed in the student's agenda and on this website.

***Late homework is NOT ACCEPTED at all, not even partial credit! Homework is often used as practice or a check for understanding before a class assignment or lab.  Failure to do homework means you did not prepare yourself for that class work.

If a student is absent, it is his or her responsibility to ask for missing work on the first day back to class. Remember that students have FIVE DAYS to make up missing work from an absence.  I welcome parents' emails or phone calls to collect assignments when students are out of class.

Grading Scale
A = 90-100
B = 80-89
C = 70-79
D = 60-69
F = 59 and below

The Classroom Environment
Each student is required to bring his or her science binder, bell ringer notebook and class textbook to class each day. Students must also be prepared with sharpened pencils or a pen for notetaking. We have only 60 minutes per class for learning, so students are asked to be in their seats when the bell rings, ready for class. If a student needs to borrow or sharpen a pencil, have it completed by the time the bell rings.

Students will have many opportunities to move about the room during classtime. Some of the fun of a science class is performing science experiments and getting our hands messy! Students are expected to be mindful of delicate equipment and special rules for lab days. Students will be receiving a Lab Safety Contract during the first week of school that explains our rules for science activities. The contract must be signed by the student and a parent and returned to the teacher to be kept on file for the year. If a student violates any of the guidelines of the Lab Safety contract, they will not participate in labs for the rest of the school year and will complete alternative assignments.

If Problems Arise...
Sometimes students become overwhelmed with the amount of work and transitions required of a middle school student. If a student starts to fall behind on work or does not understand the material, parents should contact me as soon as possible. We can usually clear up misunderstandings in a timely manner when the matter is brought to my attention early. Please do not wait until report card time!
